What percentage of solitaire games are winnable?
There is no single number, because each solitaire game has its own odds and the gap between them is large. Klondike, the classic version, is winnable in about 90.5% of turn-1 deals and about 81.9% of turn-3 deals, measured by a solver that can see every card. That is the best a flawless player could reach, not the typical result.
FreeCell is winnable in almost every deal: of the original 32,000 numbered Windows deals, all but one could be solved, roughly 99.997%. Golf is far lower, winnable 45.6% of the time in our own test of 500 deals. Pyramid falls in between, winnable at least 60.6% of the time. We solved Golf and Pyramid ourselves; the Klondike and FreeCell figures come from published research.
